Re: General question
Hi David, You could sell it to a dealer or go through an auction house … It really depends on what you have… auctions usually take about 10-25 off and add 20-30 on top so an item that hammers at 100 costs the buyer 130, and you end up with 80 (if its 30 on top 20 off) so auctions, although they can ...

Re: Recently acquired a large African art collection
They are both made for the market, the one on the left in Fang style and the other in a more generic style... no real value to collectors or to history, they are both decoration pieces made in Cameroon (by the thousands) for sale. sorry.

Re: Identifying African idol
Unfortunately it's more a souvenir and not a figure that was used in the culture, that's why it becomes almost impossible to give an exact region or place for this figure, hope it helps

Re: Identifaction large mask
Hi AandY, While your other piece was a fantasy, this piece we would call a fake or a reproduction (made to look old) made also in the last 50 years (probably last 20). This is supposed to be a Bembe Helmet mask from the Congo (and Tanzania) but unfortunaely yours was probably carved in Cameroon and ...

Re: Identification Statue
Hi AandY, Unfortunately this a recent (last 50 years or so, probably last 20) fantasy piece, made probably in Cameroon, in a vague Congo style. Only decorative value and has nothing really to do with the original cultures, nicely made though. These types of objects are made in the tens of thousands ...

Yes I am here, but unfortunately I don't know what this is... the material is also strange.. looks like fibre glass.. that would make it rather modern.

In my opinions a West African gold weight figure, this one is probably made for the market to sell to tourists.

This site is more about identifying objects from non-western cultures... In this case, I have no idea! I would try and find someone who is specialized in architectural salvage ..maybe they know?

Yes, indeed a fake made for market.. the "patina" is artificial.. sorry
The real thing is very rare and expensive, that's why they are faked like this.

Hi Deanery34, The two dolls are called Akua'ba and are traditionally made by the Ashanti from Ghana (and adjacent area). Your examples are made for the market (for sale to tourists etc) and the arms are almost completely missing (a bit of a fantasy item based on the real thing). The Other item is a ...

Re: Big bundle of objects
Hi Leena,
the likely real ones are mostly from the Lobi and Ewe tribes. There are some other ones but they require a closer study.
Hope it helps,
Cheers
